February 2010

 Welcome back,
It seems such a long time ago, but I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Well, our year is well underway with three great social nights to begin 2010, and successfully into our new lesson seven week format.
Our lessons are going well, and the instructors are implementing the new format nicely, although Rod did have to throw a spanner in the works by getting a crook shoulder.  Rod, hope things get sorted out quickly for you.  Our other instructors have slotted in nicely and are filling for Rod competently.
Our Thursday night lessons have also commenced for the year, with Marilyn and the gang doing another great job.

Our float for the Dahlia and Arts Festival parade is coming along nicely.  Thank you to those who have attended our working bees so far.  We could not do this without your help.  There will be another working bee at Marilyn and John’s on Sunday 28th February from 1pm.  Anyone who can some time aside to assist, your help would be much appreciated.  I am still needing names of those who would be able to participate in the parade.  The parade is on Saturday 20th March, and we would love our entry to be great, but your support is needed.

There have been a couple of suggested changes for our Christmas break-up this year (and possibly on going).  I would love your feedback and suggestions.  Whilst it seems (and is) a long way off (heck – just gotten over the last one), but we do need to plan and prepare.  Please give your suggestions, preferably, to the secretary or myself, (please put them in writing for ease of getting your suggestion correct – there is a suggestion box on the front table of a Monday night with very handy suggestion forms in it – or you may forward them via post or email to Secretary Bob.  We will be discussing this at the next couple of general meetings.

Keep an eye out for details for our social events for 2010 – they will be commencing soon.

Take care and - Keep on Rockin’

November 2009

Hi again,
How are you all coping with the hot temperatures we are having at the moment?  Thank goodness for air conditioners.
Speaking of the heat, those of us who went along to Bendigo Wine Estates recently had a lovely day.  Whilst it was quite a warm day, it was quite pleasant sitting under the trees having a wine or two.  Dancing to the jazz band proved to be a challenge at times, but we got there.  Thank you to everyone who attended.

Keep and eye and ear out for information about the possibility of having another such day, but in the cooler part of the day (dinner rather than lunch) perhaps in February/March next year.

Our Christmas break up will be here and gone before we know it.  A reminder to purchase your tickets from Mary Potter by 7th December.   Always a great way to end our year.

Whilst our October dance was down on numbers, it was still a great night.  It was the first time I had heard the band, “Who Was That Cat”, and thought they were great.  Check out their website www.whowasthatcat.com.au, you may just see a photo of yourself.

We have made the purchase of club stubby holders, they have come up great.  Sell price is only $6 and are available on Monday nights and at our dances.

2010 sees a big change with regard to our lessons.

We have changed the structure from five weeks to a seven week course.  In a nut shell, rather than the current beginners and intermediate five week courses, both in rock and roll, and swing, we have seven weeks of rock and roll, and seven weeks of swing.  Each course will begin with the basics (beginners steps) and move through to steps currently in the more advanced steps (intermediate course).  At the end of each seven week course will be a social night.  The yearly program also includes three weeks of advanced rock and roll, and two weeks of advanced swing.  These advanced courses will include steps that we have not previously taught.  Our team of instructors will be busy over the next weeks finalising the series of steps that will be taught in all courses for next year.  Each seven week course will cost $42 adults, (this is the same cost per week as our current lessons), $20 for under 18’s (payable on the first night).  A big thank you to especially Vanessa Murray and Frank Lynch for the time and effort they put in to come up with suggestions for our lessons for next year.

When promoting, or asked about our lessons, we ask that you let potential students know that as well as the hour of the actual lesson time (7.30 to 8.30), a light supper is included and then social dancing until 10pm.  All this for what works out to be only $6 per week.

How cheap is that???
Bye for now, and remember - Keep on Rockin’
